Cyclists participating in Brian’s Ride to inspire those living with cystic fibrosis, educate the public about its impact and raise funds for cystic fibrosis research are scheduled to arrive at 7 p.m. Thursday at Silver Hills Community Church, 1066 Mallory Way, Carson City.
The Brian’s Ride team began its journey in San Francisco Saturday and are scheduled to arrive in Annapolis, Maryland, on Aug. 2.
Originally from Butler, Pa., Brian McCandless, born with cystic fibrosis, inspired Brian’s Ride and now teaches health and physical education in Vero Beach, Fla.
McCandless, who was told he wouldn’t live long enough to graduate high school, refused to be limited by others’expectations and became an advocate for the CF community. His dedication to use exercise, nutrition and medication allow him to manage the many complications of CF, but there’s no cure. Brian’s only cure is to challenge himself to accomplish what others believe is impossible.
His previous accomplishments include numerous cycling trips of more than 2,000 miles, completing two 26.2-mile marathon and an Ironman Triathlon consisting of a 2.4-mile swin, 112-mile bike ride and 26.2 mile run.
