Moyle pitches no-hitter for Blue Jays

RENO — The Carson Blue Jays, sparked by Bryce Moyle’s no-hitter and a 3-hitter by Cody Azevedo, swept two games at the High Sierra Classic Saturday at Bishop Manogue.

Moyle no-hit Burlington, 7-0, and then the Blue Jays grabbed a 12-2 five-inning win over the Douglas Tigers. The Blue Jays, according to their schedule, are slated to play again at 10 a.m. today.

Moyle was in command throughout, striking out 11 and walking one in his gem. He got all the support he needed in just two innings.

Carson scored two in the third and added five in the fourth.

Jared Barnard and Azevedo led the offense with two hits apiece, while Kyle Krebs had a two-run single and Connor Pradere contributed a run-scoring hit.

In the win over Douglas, Azevedo didn’t allow an earned run and struck out three batters while walking just one.

Carson scored one in the first, five in the second, three in the fourth and three in the fifth en route to the mercy rule victory.

John Holton enjoyed a big day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three RBI. Pradere went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs. Azevedo helped his own cause, collecting two hits and driving in three runs. Jace Keema went 2-for-2 and drove in a run.

Carson’s five-run second inning was led by Holton’s two-run double, a sacrifice fly by Barnard and a single by Krebs. Holton also doubled home a run in the fifth.
