Tremendous start keys 25-0 win by Carson City 10-year-old all-stars

The Carson City 10-year-old all-star team started and finished its District 1 opener with a loud bang.

Carson City scored 10 in the first and 12 in the fourth en route to an easy 25-0 win over North Tahoe Wednesday at Governors Field. The game was stopped after four innings because of the 10-run rule,

The win shoved Carson City into a winner’s bracket game today at 5:30 p.m. against National Providence Little League, a new league comprised of players from North Valleys and Sparks National.

“Absolutely, it was a good way to start,” Carson manager Terry George said. “The kids played very well. We hit the ball well, played good defense and kept our pitch count to a minimum. Hopefully we can build off this win.”

The trio of Kai Miller, Tyler Palmer and Thomas Young combined to throw a 2-hitter and strike out eight batters. Miller threw just 19 pitches, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him on the hill at some point tonight.

Carson pounded 16 hits led by three from Ian Fontaine and two each from Cooper Eaton, Devon Sanchez, Anthony Planeta and Quentin Beck. Aaron Mastrain, Ethan Reynolds, Decarlo Quintana, Aiden Serda and Palmer added a hit each.

The opening inning set the tone for the game. Carson sent 15 batters to the plate, and everybody in the starting line-up scored a run, and Eaton actually scored twice.

Planeta singled and reached second when Eaton’s sacrifice bunt was misplayed. Miller walked to load the bases, and Fontaine singled home Planeta. Eaton trotted home on a wild pitch and Serda singled home Miller to make it 3-0. Sanchez and Thomas Burchett walked and Beck reached first on a bunt single. Young walked to force home the sixth run of the inning. An error and two wild pitches acconted for the last four runs of a wild opening inning.

Max Kay-Welz singled for North Tahoe, but the trio of Carson hurlers retired the next 10 hitters before Jake Buchanan walked in the fourth inning.

Three walks and singles by Eaton and Beck accounted for two more runs in the second, and a one-out error on Reynolds’ groundball scored the third-inning run to make it 13-0 in the third.

In the fourth inning, Carson sent 18 batters to the plate en route to the aforementioned 12-run inning. The winners used nine hits, four walks, an error and hit batsman to do their damage. The biggest blow was an off-field two-run double by Quintana.

Carson’s other teams, the 11-year-olds and the 12-year-olds, swing into action today. The 11s play at 5:30 and the 12s play at 8.

All three age groups are playing a double-elimination plus consolation format. The tournaments run through July 4. Admission is free and a snack bar is available.
