Jacqueline Kuhre and Charles Wesley Borders of Carson City are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary today.
The Borders, who met as teenagers in 1937 when Jacqueline spent a summer with her grandparents in San Antonio, Texas, were married on June 28, 1945, in Loveland, Colo.
Charles served 30 years in the United States Air Force, in which he flew more than 500 combat missions in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He retired in 1972 at the rank of Colonel. During his military career, he was stationed in Washington, Texas, California, Virginia, Michigan, Illinois, Mississippi, Okinawa, Japan, Korea and Vietnam. He also served on numerous temporary assignments in Africa, Turkey, Europe, and other locations in the Far East.
Jacqueline spent 26 years as an Air Force wife, moving around the world. The couple’s 25th and final move was in Carson City, where they remain active — Jacqueline makes miniature doll houses and Charles keeps busy writing and reading.
The couple has two sons, Charles W. Borders, Jr., married to Jeri, of Carson City; and Michael G. Borders, married to Marsha, of Las Vegas; and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Events for family and friends hosted by the Borders’ children and grandchildren are planned to celebrate the anniversary.
