Richard “Dick” Malmberg

Dick passed away peacefully with his family present at his side at the Lodge Memory Care Unity in Carson City, NV. He was born in Hays, KS, the oldest of two children of Carl & Ruby Malmberg. In Dec. 1960, he married his childhood friend, Virginia Wood. He is survived by his wife Virginia of Carson City, mother Ruby Wood, and sister Mary Illyin of San Raphael, CA. Three children, Jennifer Baker,

Camarillo ,CA. Carol Nussbaumer and husband Matt of Carson City, Dan Gage and wife Marie of Seattle, WA. Four grandchildren, Stacey and husband, Josh Gates and Rachel Baker of Camarillo, CA. Garrett and Justin Nussbaumer Carson City and one great granddaughter Zoey Gates. Following a tour of duty in the Navy where he served on board the USS Los Angeles. He attended and graduated from Fort Hays State University. He taught English at the high school level for two years before entering the construction field. The next 25 years he held marketing and management positions with a prefabrication steel building firm, and a precast concrete manufacturer. Dick’s heart had always centered around his faith and love of the Church. He became certified as a conflict consultant with the Presbyterian Church and a Lay Pastor, serving two churches, Sylvan Grove and Vesper KS. He also served as the moderator of several committees in Northern Kansas Presbyterian and at the National level with PCUSA. Later he served as the Interim Executive Presbyterian for Hartland Presbyterian of Greater Kansas City. In 1999, Dick accepted the call to serve as executive Presbyterian for Southeastern Illinois Presbyterian. He continued in this position of leadership until his retirement in 2009. Dick and Virginia moved to Carson City at the time to be closer to family. Quoting what a friend and co-worker Rev. Cindy Bean, stated Clerk of Southeastern Illinois wrote, “Dick was so certain of God’s presence in his life and confident of the promise of the resurrection secured through Jesus Christ and devoted to the guidance of the holy Spirit, that he even declared his diagnoses of Alzheimer’s as a gift and rejoices to be in the presence of his Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer.” A service of celebration will be held at 11:00a.m. on Monday, June 29th,at First Presbyterian Church, Carson City, NV. The family asks that donations in his name to Zephyr Point Presbyterian Conference Center at Lake Tahoe, NV.
