Crack of doom at Gold Hill. There is a mysterious earth crack extending from the vicinity of Fort Homestead, Gold Hill, that runs about three quarters of a mile. It has greatly widened and lengthened within the last three months. This crack marks the east wall of the Comstock. Several stone monuments erected by the United States government in the immediate vicinity of the crack have shifted position to such an extent that they are no longer reliable for surveying purposes.

Returns. Donald J. Young, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Young of Carson, will be home on a 15-day leave after completion of a 24-week course at the Naval Radio School in San Diego. Then he will report to San Francisco to be stationed aboard the USS Hornet, a carrier.

Senior center. Janice McIntosh has been named as director of the Carson City Senior Center. McIntosh has a degree in social work and holds a real estate license. She was also an officer in the U.S. Navy and started family assistance programs for the U.S. Army.
