All sorts. The students of the Reno High school paid the Legislature a visit. The lumber season in the Sierra Nevada begins this week. Fleix Morris, who was struck on the head with a rock by three thugs in Reno, is reported much better. Thugs are still on the loose.

Spanish-American War. Five hundred forty-five men were trained at Camp Clark in 1898. Of the four companies of soldiers, one was recruited at Carson and Carson Valley, one at Virginia City, and one at Reno, one from Elko and Winnemucca. During the encampment in Carson, the Relief Corps and other organization administered to the needs of the soldiers. Forty-seven years later they were honored by the Spanish-American war veterans and told that their efforts in 1898 had been really appreciated.

Ground breaking ceremonies were held for the first stage of the Capital Village Shopping Center to be located north of Carson City on Highway 395 where Sewell’s, Inc. of Reno, will construct a 34,000 square foot supermarket. Sewell’s stores were founded by Abner Sewell in 1897 at the mining camp of Tuscarora and now operates four stores in Nevada, two in Reno, one in Elko and one in Winnemucca.
