Carson Tahoe Center for Wound Healing receives national honor

The Carson Tahoe Center for Wound Healing has been recognized as a Center of Distinction by Healogics, Inc.

The distinction makes CTC the only not-for-profit center in Nevada to have earned this national award. The Carson Tahoe Center for Wound Healing is one of only two facilities in the state with this distinction.

The award distinguishes the Center for Wound Healing as one of the top wound care centers in the country and is given to facilities that have outstanding patient outcomes for 12 months or more. High standards must be met in all of the following categories to become a Center of Distinction: patient satisfaction, healing rate, outlier rate and median days to heal.

“We strive for the best outcomes for our patients, and to provide our community with the highest-quality care possible,” said Kelly Wilcher, Long Term Acute Care/Center for Wound Healing CEO with Carson Tahoe Health. “Receiving this award for distinction, and being the only not-for-profit wound care center in the area to do so, reflects our commitment to providing the most advanced and compassionate care to our community.”

Nationally, approximately seven million people suffer from chronic, open wounds, usually involving the lower extremities. This serious condition can cause significant impairment in the quality of life and may lead to limb amputation if left untreated. Non-healing wounds frequently occur in the elderly and in people with diabetes, peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and chronic vein disorders such as varicose veins and venous thrombosis and prolonged immobility.

“Our center is physician-driven, utilizing proven clinical protocols and a disease management approach that is recognized as best practice in wound care,” said Dr. David A. Johnson, Medical Director with the Carson Tahoe Center for Wound Healing. “Using state-of-the-art modalities, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy technologies, we are able to heal patients in our community, getting them back to living happy, healthy lives. We are proud to provide this specialized and needed service close to home.”

The Carson Tahoe Center for Wound Healing has since 2013 offered specialized wound care to patients suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections, and other chronic or non-healing wounds.

Advanced treatments include hyperbaric oxygen therapy, negative pressure wound therapy, bio-engineered skin substitutes, biological and biosynthetic dressings and growth factor therapies.
