Congressional Rep. Dina Titus is calling on Nevada lawmakers to pass a resolution asking Congress to repeal a federal tax on Nevada sports books.

Titus spoke to a joint session of the Legislature on Wednesday evening and called legislators to support a tax reform that imposes about $9 million to $11 million in taxes on sportsbooks each year. Titus introduced federal legislation to repeal the tax in February.

The Democratic congresswoman also updated legislators on bills affecting veterans and expanding federal funding for college science and math programs.

Titus was elected to Congressional District 1 in 2013 and served for 20 years in the Nevada Senate. Republican Rep. Mark Amodei spoke to the Legislature on Monday and called for better state and federal relations on land issues.
