Carson City residents can rank top city government goals among six listed for them at open houses covering strategic planning both this week and next.
Citizens may also record their rankings online at carson.org if they cannot make it to any of the open house sessions Thursday or Monday, or they can do so ahead of time and spend their open houses in dialogue with public officials after an opening presentation. The four open house meetings are scheduled twice daily, running from Noon until 2 p.m. Thursday and next Monday, as well as from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on those same days.
The Thursday sessions are at the Fuji Park and Fairgrounds exhibit hall on Old Clear Creek Road. Next week’s Monday sessions are at the Sierra Room in the Community Center at William and Roop streets.
The goals, to be ranked first through sixth, are: economic development; efficient government; organizational culture; quality of life and community; safety; and sustainable infrastructure. Each of those goals then has from two to five strategic objectives that citizens also may rank.
For example, economic development includes: develop downtown; market community assets; cultivate regional partnerships; support businesses, or support development.
City Manager Nick Marano said the sessions will open with 20 minute power point presentations. He said then people can meet with city department heads or personnel and elected officials at various stations to discuss the strategic objectives and the officials will be able ”to get feedback from citizens” directly.
