Carson City, Nevada gas costs ‘all over the place’

The pump price for gasoline ranged in Carson City Monday from $2.56 per gallon to $2.89, the latter a nickel higher than the Nevada average on the previous day.

That was the word from GasBuddy.com, a website tracking the retail price at the pump for unleaded regular. The gas-monitoring website also said the national average on Sunday was $2.42 a gallon. The statewide average was 5.1 cents per gallon lower than a week earlier, but the national average remained unchanged.

“Gasoline trends are all over the place, depending on where in the country motorists are,” said Patrick DeHaan senior petroleum analyst at the gasoline price-monitoring website.

In Carson City on Monday, Costco at 700 Old Clear Creek Road and JM Gasoline at 1321 N. Carson St. posted the lowest pump price of $2.56, but those prices ascended throughout the community and seven stations reached $2.89.

DeHaan said uncertainty is the main guarantee going forward, but with refiners beginning to draw down on oil inventories there’s a case to be made for easing of prices.

“This recipe will likely bring the lowest summer gasoline prices since 2010, but the short term outlook may vary based on region,” he said.

He projected that West Coast locales will see falling prices, the Rockies and Plain states will see slight increases or stability, while the Gulf and East Coast regions will see mild declines.

With fluctuating motor fuel costs over the past year, the website reported, gasoline prices in Nevada still are 72.8 cents per gallon lower than on the same day a year ago and yet 28.1 cents a gallon higher than a month ago.

The national price, meanwhile, has increased 12.1 cents per gallon over the past month yet the latest survey showed it stands more than $1.10 a gallon lower than on the same date a year ago.
