An 11-year-old Carson City boy received a life-threatening head injury in an incident reported 12:09 p.m. Sunday.
Sheriff Ken Furlong said witnesses reported seeing the boy riding on the running board of a Chevrolet Tahoe that was leaving a family gathering.
About 75 yards from the juvenile’s home, near Dori Way and Ester Circle, the child was thrown from the side of the SUV, forcefully hitting his head on the pavement. The patient remained unconscious throughout treatment at the scene and was determined to have suffered grave life-threatening injuries.
Carson City deputies and medics responded to the scene and found the boy had gravely life threatening head injuries. The Tahoe was not onscene, but deputies found that the driver was related to the juvenile. The driver returned to the scene, Furlong said.
The identity of the driver is being withheld pending completion of the investigation.
Although no citations or arrests have yet been completed, the sheriff’s office will work closely with the district attorney’s office as the case develops, Furlong said.
