Carson City gas prices at $2.59 a gallon; Nevada gas $2.80

Nevada’s average gasoline pump price dropped 2.2 cents a gallon to $2.80 in the past week, but many Carson City stations were below that level on Monday.

GasBuddy.com, a gas price monitoring website, reported that in the state’s capital community JM Gasoline posted the lowest pump price at $2.56. Costco’s pump price was $2.57 per gallon. There were 11 outlets trailing that pair at $2.59. JM is located at 1321 N. Carson St., Costco at 700 Old Clear Creek Road.

Other Carson City gas outlets ranged from $2.64 to $2.85 with those bringing up the rear just a nickel over the statewide average. The citywide average at 24 outlets surveyed by GasBuddy was about $2.67 a gallon, or 13 cents below the statewide average.

That statewide average was reported Monday based on a survey of 1,130 Nevada stations surveyed through Sunday, and the Silver State came in considerably higher, as normal, than the nationwide average reported by GasBuddy.com. The nationwide level was up 0.4 cents to $2.43 a gallon.

“Overall,” said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy petroleum analyst, ”the national average paints a quiet picture with prices virtually unchanged.” He said despite that calm picture, there were outlier states such as Florida, Ohio and Indiana. In that trio, GasBuddy said, motorists saw notable increases in the pump price.

While gas prices were mostly calm with outlier states making the picture a mixed bag, GasBuddy reported, the diesel price provided a different story. Diesel prices dropped in 48 of the 50 states with Hawaii and Florida the exceptions. Hawaii prices blipped up two cents while those in Florida were unchanged. Nationally, the diesel price decline on average was nearly three cents per gallon.
