By communication fresh from Mr. Montgomery Queen, we learn that his grand combination show — circus and menagerie — is about starting for the season’s tour and that will be in Carson on Saturday, June 12. The circus has been wintering in Alameda County and the elephant, humpback dromedaries, white peacocks and the ostrich, lamas and baby zebra and horned horse from Ethiopia.

Appointment vs. disappointment. Photographer (displaying some pictures) — You would hardly think those two pictures represented the same man, would you? Gentleman — No, certainly not. Photographer — Well, they do. The one represents him before he went to Washington, and the other after he came back.

Shearing commenced at the Winnemucca corrals this morning. About 25 shearers reported for work on the flocks of Frank Garteiz. It is estimated that more than 30,000 head will be sheared here this year. — Humboldt Star.

70 years ago

Carson City schools reopened today after an Easter vacation of a week. Approximately 30 of the high school boys spent their week profitably by working for the V&T Railroad doing much needed repair work on the roadbed.

Carson police are holding an Army field jacket, .22 rifle, camera and field glasses, which were found alongside Highway 50 near Silver Springs by the highway patrol. The items appear to have been out in the weather for quite some time.

50 years ago

Dinah Shore, famed vocalist now appearing at Lake Tahoe, will be guest-of-honor tomorrow at a “Silver Tea” at the Governor’s Mansion. Donations made at the door will go to the Nevada Crippled Children’s fund.
