With Mother’s Day coming up on May 10, Carson Tahoe Health is encouraging women with a family history of breast cancer to be proactive about their breast health by attending its annual event, Project Pink. A woman’s risk of breast cancer doubles if she has a close relative (mother, sister, or daughter) who has been diagnosed with the disease.

Project Pink will be held from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, May 7 at the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center, 1535 Medical Parkway. Light hors d’oeuvres will be provided. Admission is free and space is limited, RSVP to (775) 445-7500.

Women who receive a breast cancer diagnosis may be faced with a series of questions and uncertainty about how the diagnosis will affect their loved ones, what they can do to protect their families, and whether genetic testing should be considered.

Project Pink is a special evening for women in the community to speak openly with breast cancer experts about what a diagnosis means for their families. Mothers, sisters, and daughters are encouraged to come together for an empowering discussion with Carson Tahoe physicians who specialize in: radiation oncology, medical oncology, breast imaging, lymphedema, genetics, nutrition, and personal training.

“Project Pink offers an opportunity for women in our community to be proactive about their breast health in an open, friendly, and supportive environment,” says Annie Millard, Cancer Center Director with Carson Tahoe Health. “We are pleased to provide women, who have a family history of breast cancer, the latest information on their risk for developing the disease in the future.”
