Pioneer High School students compete at statewide conference

On March 15, Pioneer High School’s new health science program traveled to Las Vegas to compete in Nevada HOSA’s 2015 State Leadership Conference. Pioneer High School’s health science one class, the first in the program sequence, sent five future health professionals to compete against hundreds of students statewide.

Julia Albiter, Alyssa Hernandez and Johnny Lopez participated in the public health presentation event about secondhand stress. The judges were impressed with their first round performance and invited them back for the final round. Additionally, Khaslynne Andrews and Jazmyn Conde participated in the health career display under the topic of women’s health. Again, the judges were impressed with their display and invited them back to the final round.

Along with competitive events, the Panther team attended multiple symposiums, including: “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work;” “Integrative Medicine” and “Radiology Therapy.” These workshops were valuable in many ways. Students were exposed to many health care topics and networked with many industry and state leaders. The conference was a great success. The Pioneer team enhanced its skills, honed its teamwork, and demonstrated a great deal of poise and professionalism.
