The Carson City Christian Ministers Fellowship is hosting events on Thursday in celebration of National Day of Prayer, beginning with a prayer session at 7:30 a.m. in Room 3100 of the Legislative Building.
Lt. Gov. Mark Hutchison and other state and city leaders will gather at 11 a.m. at the steps of the Capitol, where there will be readings on the national, state and city levels, with prayer following each reading.
Wrapping up events on Thursday will be the Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Ceremony at noon in front of the Legislative Building.
Pastors from at least eight local churches will be on hand at a prayer event at 7 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, 306 W. Musser St.
The National Day of Prayer was established as an annual event in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. President Ronald Reagan signed into law the designation of the first Thursday in May as the annual observance for the National Day of Prayer in 1988. This year’s National Day of Prayer is “Lord, Hear Our Cry.”
