Carson’s Butler qualifies for state golf tournament

DAYTON — Dalton Butler shot a second-round 74 to finish fifth overall with a 36-hole total of 153 at the Northern Division I regional golf tournament at Dayton Valley Golf Club.

Butler will be the only CHS player at next week’s state event Monday and Tuesday at Montreux Golf & Country Club.

“He gave away a couple of shots on the back side,” coach Rod Butler said. “In a stretch of three holes, he was 4-over-par. Once he turned the corner (and didn’t have the wind against him) he was able to hold it back together.”

Coach Butler was proud of the entire team. The Senators shot the second-lowest score of the day (414) behind regional champ Manogue’s 378. The Senators were fifth at 867. Manogue won with a 769 followed by Galena at 834 and Reno at 836.

Matt McCarthy shot 81, Bebop Martinez 82, Jake Jones 85, Lakoda Smokey 92 and Taylor Saarem 111.

“We played outstanding,” Butler said. “I was happy with the way everybody played. Everybody finally showed what they could do. It was a great way to end the season for them.”
