Get rid of Daylight Saving Time
Daylight Saving Time is one of my pet peeves so I was heartened to learn the Nevada Legislature is considering doing something about it. (“Nevada Legislature Week 14: Daylight Saving time all year round?” Sunday, May 3). While this is the opposite of my preference to remain on standard time throughout the year, it would at least eliminate the biannual offense to my biological clock, and I could live with it. Anything’s better than the current state of affairs: It’s just not nice to mess with Mother Nature, or tinker with time.
I’d like to propose a compromise permanently adopting DST that I think might satisfy everyone — move the clocks forward a half-hour from standard time and call it good. This would not only solve America’s stolen sleep problem, it would also demonstrate that we really can all get along. Maybe we could even turn back the clock to the time we got to Woodstock and there’d be love and celebration!
