Edward Durand was awarded with the 2015 Art Educator of the Year Award at the NAEA National Convention in New Orleans, March 26-28. Durand has been in the teaching profession for 20 years, spending the last seven with the Lyon County School District. Upon winning the award, Durand said that he was “honored and humbled.” He has been a part of the State Education Association for 17 years, which lead to his nomination by Dennis Inhulsen, the President of the Association. He is currently teaching three levels of art classes at Yerington High School.
Gardnerville man graduates from University of Jamestown
Garrett Tenney of Gardnerville was among 200 students recognized at University of Jamestown’s 109th commencement ceremony held on Saturday, May 9, at the Jamestown Civic Center.
December 2014, May 2015, and Summer 2015 graduates were recognized and participated in the ceremony.
Area students named to dean’s list
Simpson University named more than 265 students to its spring 2015 dean’s list, including Dalton Grisell, a math major from Gardnerville, and Dillon Stetler, a pre-nursing major from Zephyr Cove.
To make the list, students must earn a semester grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
