The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.
SILVER DOLLAR: Pardon us if we bask in our own glory, but if you haven’t heard, we celebrated our 150th birthday Saturday. It’s now day one of our second 150 years here at the Nevada Appeal, so we plan on being here for a while. But the only reason why we’re here is because of you. The only reason why we’ve been here for 150 years is because of the support we’ve received from Carson City and the surrounding area. While we certainly know we’re human and not perfect and we’ll always have our detractors, rest assured all of us here at the Appeal will continue to provide this area with the best product possible and consider it a privilege to do so. For at least another 150 years.
SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson High’s Shaylin Segura, Sadie Share, Sandro Figueroa, Shane Morton and Jacob Bertocchi who have all qualified for the National Speech and Debate Championships to be held June 14-20 in Dallas. The five students represents the largest contingent CHS has ever sent to nationals.
SILVER DOLLAR: To Nevada First Lady Kathleen Sandoval who has been recognized by the Ron Wood Center as its Community Leader of the Year. Sandoval has been a champion of literacy, early childhood education, child mental health and mental health initiatives.
