Senator Square: Monday Night Live at Community Center

Do you enjoy Saturday Night Live? Then don’t miss Carson High School’s own MONDAY Night Live! Glowsticks, hilarity and dancing teachers at the Carson City Community Center at 7 p.m. Monday. Tickets are $3 with student ID and $5 general admission. Then on Tuesday, May 26 at 6 p.m., CHS theatre presents “Much Ado About Nothing” at the Capitol Grounds Amphitheater. Bring your blanket or lawn chair, and picnic to munch on. Admission is free.

GRADUATION

The Class of 2015 graduation ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. May 30 on the football field. Guests should be aware parking and seating is limited and should arrive early. Handicap seating and parking is available. The Senior Class photo will be taken in the gym of all of the seniors in their caps and gowns. This photo can be pre-ordered by calling 283-1737 or by email at golikphotography@gmail.com. Seniors are to arrive at the school and meet in the gymnasium at 8:45 a.m.

SAFE GRAD

Safe Grad has been a tradition for Carson High since 1988 that promotes the idea of a drug and alcohol free celebration the night of graduation. This, in most cases, is the last chance for some graduates to get together and celebrate their accomplishment. Safe Grad is a parent and community sponsored all-night party that begins the evening after graduation at the Carson City Community Center. Once inside the Community Center, graduates will experience a variety of fun and safe activities including food, music, entertainment, games and other activities during the all-night party. After breakfast, graduates who have paid the trip fee will load onto buses and head to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo for an exciting day at the park. Seniors were to have signed up by Friday. If you missed this deadline, contact Kim Santos in the Student Finance office on Monday. SUMMER SCHOOL

Summer School enrollment is now open for Carson High School students. Summer school is offered for students who have failed one or more semesters of a course that’s required for graduation. Students should check with their counselor for the appropriate summer school class. The cost is $150 per half credit, and full payment is required at the time of registration. Sign up as soon as possible, as space is limited. Call the guidance office for more information at 283-1915.

June 11: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. — Sport Packet online assistance - Library South Lab; June 17: 6 p.m. — Fall Sports Sign ups — North Foyer; June 17: 6:30 p.m. — Sport physicals — $10 per person; June 18-June 24 and July 27-Aug. 3 — Fall Athletic Packets accepted by the Athletic office from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.; July 1-July 27 — Sports Athletic Office closed.

YEARBOOK NEWS

The 2015 Carneta yearbook had the opportunity to play with a historic theme about our state and our school as we celebrated Nevada’s 150th birthday. The students designed a cover that’s a wonderful montage of Nevada historic sites. The theme of the book is “Making Our Mark,” a reflection on being part of this place in history. Book orders are still being taken, although supplies are limited. All proceeds from yearbook sales benefit the publications program of CHS. The 2015 Carneta, “Making Our Mark,” is priced at $80. SKILLSUSA TO NATIONALS

The 2015 Nevada SkillsUSA Championships Conference took place April 14-17 in Reno. The conference showcased the exceptional talents of nearly 1,100 high school and college students from across Nevada. Students competed in 50 leadership and skill-based contests which included culinary, information technology services, photography, welding and many others.

Here’s a list of Carson High School winners at state:

Jessica Basa, Amanda Breen, Sarah Christl took gold medals in Chapter Display; Oksana White, Jiavanna Wong-Fortunato took gold medals in Promotional Bulletin Board; Ryker Been took a Silver Medal in Restaurant Service; Amanda Breen received the John Wadsworth/Kelly Whited Memorial Scholarship; and Zach Simms was elected as a State Officer.

The gold medal winners will go on to compete in the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference June 22 to 26 in Louisville, Ky. Shipping the winning projects — promotional bulletin board, trade show (chapter) display, featuring a kiosk machine — becomes costly for students and advisers.
