The Carson High School SafeGrad program is expected to continue despite not fully raising funds.
Karri Couste, SafeGrad chair, said she believes the program will continue through at least next year. SafeGrad is an event for all Carson High School seniors to spend one last night together with their classmates before graduation. The 20-year-old program is an all-night party at the Carson City Community Center and a day trip to Six Flags, designed to keep students safe on graduation night.
The SafeGrad committee has been trying to raise funds for the program, which is going to cost close to $35,000, and have been afraid it wouldn’t have enough money to continue the program after this year.
Couste said while they didn’t meet their complete fundraising goal, they will have enough to put on most of the events they want for next year.
“It has been going well,” Couste said. “We have had people step up and donate and I believe we will have it next year due to the generosity of the community. We may have to cut some things out, but it will be pretty much the same.”
Couste believes they are about $3,000 short of their goal.
