Ball and chain. Justice Gaige sentenced a tramp to 30 days in the county jail. When sentenced by the judge, he turned round and remarked: “The Court can go to hell.” Sheriff Crisler considering him a hard lot decided to make him do a little light street work for the municipality.

The Rambler by Wes Davis/ G.I. guide to U.S.A. — After you get out of uniform (and back in civies), be careful how you whistle at the “fems.” Those wire contraptions hanging in clothes closets are to be used for holding your clothing. Watch your grammar around the house. That little kid running around the house will require a little time to get used to you. Sleeping in bed might be difficult at first. Try sleeping in a hole in the back yard for a while ... then move into the house. The same God you may have found “out there” is equally present back here, though you’d probably never guess it.

Sante Kimes. Mother and son grifters were convicted of murdering an 82-year old millionaire widow. She was known as Sandy Chambers when she graduated from Carson High School in 1952 where her adoptive family lived.
Sue Ballew is the daughter of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
