Thanks to the support of local agencies, businesses and the community, Concert Under the Stars, A Benefit for The Greenhouse Project has grown exponentially since its inception.
Of course, this year is no different. It is through the generous financial and material support that The Greenhouse Project, and also Capital FFA Chapter are able to succeed.
“Without the community’s belief in what we do, none of this would be possible,” said Karen Abowd, project president and founder. “It is because of ongoing commitments and new commitments from Nevada businesses, organizations and the community’s willingness to show up and participate, we are able to do what we do, which is to provide food for the under served by way of produce donations to our local non-profits and to keep our young people engaged in learning the importance of creating sustainable food supplies and the many aspects that entails.”
This year’s Concert Under the Stars features an evening of back-to-back, chart-topping hits by 1970s bands Ambrosia and Pablo Cruise Wednesday, July 8, at Cafe at Adele’s in Carson City.
Food vendors serving delectable goodies include Carson BBQ, LA Bakery and Burger Me, and High Sierra Brewery will be serving its favorite offerings.
So far, items offered for this year’s live auction include dinner with the band immediately following the concert; dinner for eight by Chef Mauricio at Westside Pour House; a signed Doobie Brothers guitar; private wine tasting for up to 20 people at Total Wine & More; a boat trip on Lake Tahoe with a private dinner prepared by chefs (more details to come); B.R. Cohn Concert and Stay package (details to come); and a fishing trip on Lake Tahoe (details to come).
The silent auction conducted during the concert benefits Capitol FFA Chapter of Carson High School. FFA is a youth leadership organization that makes a positive difference in the lives of young people by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agriculture education.
“Funds raised will be used to help students travel to the national leadership conference and competitions in Louisville, Kentucky, in November,” said Michelle Lewis, career and technical education coordinator for Carson High School. “The chapter raised almost $3,000 at last year’s ‘Chairity’ event, and our theme this year is ‘Yard Art.’”
“We greatly appreciate the support of The Greenhouse Project and our community in helping students grow in their knowledge of agriculture science,” said Charlie Mann, FFA advisor and CHS agriculture teacher.
This year’s Concert Under the Stars is made possible in large part due to the generous support of NVEnergy, Carson-Tahoe Health, Reno News & Review, The Greenhouse Project, Cafe at Adele’s, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Gold Dust West Hotel & Casino and Abowd & Rose Financial Group.
