Joseph Gene Baum was born August 1, 1931 in Midvale, Utah to Thelma Welch and Clyde Baum. Gene passed away May 15th surrounded by loved ones at the home of his daughter in Carson City, Nevada.

Gene’s family moved to Battle Mountain Nevada where he grew up working a number of jobs including ranch work, construction and mining. Gene married Maxine Olson in 1952 and had two son’s Al and Andy Baum of Battle Mountain, NV. They divorced in 1954. Gene married the love of his life Lois Calder in 1956. Gene served his country in the U.S. Army prior to starting a family with Lois. Lois and Gene had three children: Doris, Wallace of Winnemucca, NV and Dani Andreas of Carson City, NV. In 1964 Gene started Humboldt Ready Mix with his brother-in-law John Dufurrena and ran the business until 1977. Gene and Lois then began developing subdivisions in the Winnemucca area and have done so to this day as well as numerous mining and farming projects... Gene loved to be outdoors. His passion was prospecting for gold and spent many days moving dirt and working the metal detectors with Lois and Wallace and he enjoyed their successes. Gene was always helping others whether it was helping repair homes for people or helping those in crisis. Gene was extremely generous and never worried about or expected payment for those in need. Gene was preceded in death by his mother Thelma Louise Nelson Welch, step-father Ora B. Welch (Dinty), father Clyde Baum (Edith), Brother Kay Baum (Barbara) and daughter Doris Baum. Gene is survived by his wife of 59 years Lois, his son Al Baum (Crystal), grandchildren Kelly Baum, Fallon Hill, Wade Baum and Rebel Reid. Son Andy Baum (Cindy), grandchildren Jennifer McKendall and Tonya Boltz. Son Wallace Baum, grandchildren Robert, Josh and Trevor Baum. Daughter Dani Andreas (Bret), grandchildren Ashley and Nick Andreas. Gene had seven greatgrandchildren. He will be missed by many. At Gene’s request, no services are planned.
