Lawyer Referral and Information Service gives to nonprofits

The State Bar of Nevada’s Lawyer Referral and Information Service awarded grants to numerous nonprofits around Nevada, including one in Lyon County.

The grants are awarded to organizations dedicated to providing legal services and education to the community.

Grant funds were awarded to Lyon County Court Appointed Special Advocates for the cost of recruiting, training and monitoring volunteers; Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada for the costs of technology and infrastructure upgrade; Nevada Disability Advocacy & Law Center for the cost of a disability rights workshop; Project REAL for the costs of the “Your Day in Court” program; Rocky Mountain Innocence Center for the costs of correction and prevention of innocent people wrongfully convicted in Nevada; Southern Nevada Senior Law Project for the costs of a technology upgrade; UNLV’s William S. Boyd School of Law for the costs of the Alternative Spring Break program.

Lawyer Referral and Information Service granted nearly $2 million since 2007.

Business meeting focusing on women’s pay equity

The June eWomenNetwork Reno/Carson/Tahoe Chapter networking dinner on Wednesday, June 17, will tackle a topic that has inspired vigorous discussion and a number of recent books with “The real reason for the income gap.”

The event takes place from 5:15 to 7:30 p.m., with doors opening with informal networking at 4:45 p.m., at Hidden Valley Country Club, 3575 E. Hidden Valley Dr. in Reno.

Leisa Peterson will offer information about how what it means to be a woman in business; how to set a new vision and intention for the future without the stories of the past; how it not only is a bad idea for women to change who they naturally are in the business environment; and how a culture of “not good enough” will never support the advancement of the type of women leaders that business needs.

Peterson, MBA, CFP, is the founder of WealthClinic, a global community that helps people improve their relationships with money through online interactive workshops and retreats. Peterson has 22 years of experience in executive roles for several of the country’s largest financial institutions and also has an extensive background in teaching others how to use mindfulness in their day-to-day activities.

eWomenNetwork connects and promotes women and their businesses, offering Accelerated Networking and other resources designed to build relationships and success. In addition to the program, the evening includes dinner and structured networking. No-host wine and beer are available.

Nevada Rural Housing Authority gives MVP award

Nevada Rural Housing Authority presented Eaglemark Savings Bank, a wholly owned subsidiary of Harley-Davidson Financial Services, with its 2014 Most Valuable Partner Award at its March 26 board meeting.

NRHA honored Eaglemark and Harley Davidson for donating nearly $100,000 to NRHA programs over the past decade. Their donations have supported NRHA programs such as Financial Literacy, Housing Studies, Homebuyer Education and Home at Last Mortgage Assistance, exemplifying public-private partnerships at work.
