Demand for paint. Lt. Seamand’s Indian scouts called on Jesse Beene’s drug store today and bought all the pure vermillion in the shop. They are fixing up pretty for the avowed purpose of taking Bannock scalps. We trust they may succeed and enjoy the operation. — Reese River Reveille.

Right on the heels of the demise of two newspapers in Eureka, eight liquor saloons go under. From this, one would infer that each newspaper was capable of keeping up four saloons.

100 years ago

Town pervaded with feathers. The atmosphere of Carson today seems to be thoroughly pervaded with feathers. There are pin feathers, the short ones which appear on the breast of the bird and the full, long quills of the wings. The cause is — it seems the Eagles have taken charge of the town. This is the Eagles day and tonight is the Eagles night. The local aerie is going to put through a class of 98, the largest number of the secret order in one night.

70 years ago

Two Indians, Henry Oniel and Edwin Jack, escaped last night from the prison farm near Carson. Both men had broken parole several years ago, but were retaken, and had only about a year to go until they served their full terms. Word is they will be apprehended soon.

(Photo caption). Lon’s pharmacy officially opened last Saturday with the cutting of the ribbon by Major James Robinson. On hand was Chamber President Stan Warren, Max Shoemaker and Mrs. Shoemaker, Lonnie and David Truell.

With a Carson City Regional Planning Commission vote of 3-3, builders are restricted to 30 allocations per year.
