A Black Bear Diner restaurant will open next year in Carson City’s Max Casino and Wyndham Garden Hotel, according to Lee Kennedy, manager of the gaming/lodging property.
“It’s going to take the existing restaurant,” said Kennedy, noting the current facility has seating for 146. He said other details with be forthcoming later.
“It’s perfect for Carson City,” he said. “It’s a good thing. We’re going to be adding jobs to the community, and it’s a good thing.”
Kennedy said Black Bear Diners are known throughout the West for featuring “phenomenal food.” The restaurant provides family fare. There are five in Nevada, with the state capital addition making a sixth, and the restaurant chain’s website shows 77 total now operating in eight states.
In addition to the Silver State, they operate in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Arizona, Utah and Colorado.
The Carson City casino and hotel, which is at 900 S. Carson St., operates just north and across the street from the Carson Mall, and is south a few blocks on the west side of the city’s main thoroughfare from the larger but unopen Ormsby House at West 5th and Carson streets.
Kennedy said Monday that the goal is to bring in the new restaurant before mid-year in 2016, with spring the current target.
The five Black Bear Diner outlets already operating in Nevada are in Reno, Sparks, Fernley, Henderson and Las Vegas. The franchise firm’s website indicates Black Bear Diners, Inc., is in Redding, Calif. Bloomberg indicates the company, founded there in 1995, is a privately held corporation.
