Hallow E’en [sic]: The holiday is always celebrated by the boys of small towns, especially by pulling gates off their hinges and piling it up on someone else’s back shed. When you wake up one morning and find a big hole in the fence where your gate used to swing, you may know by the signs that it is Hallow E’en. Bob Lindsay of Reno patented a contrivance that when a boy yanks his gate off, the water is turned on. He fixed one a few nights since and a neighbor calling on Mrs. Lindsey got showered. Bob did not do it on the malice aforethought plan.

Graders nearing town. The old flume beyond Major Gardner’s home will convince people that the new railroad is on the move. A dozen big teams are ploughing [sic] and scraping, bridges across the river have been completed and above the lumber yard, the railroad people have several immense piles of ties.

The Rambler by Wes Davis. There is no single thing needed in Carson so much as a good hospital. Perhaps it can be done with federal money. Some group should be working on plans — and quickly.

Scams. A scam is reported operating in Nevada by the name of the Nigerian National Petroleum Co. A Las Vegas assemblyman received a letter requesting he call a Nigerian number to arrange for a deposit of $45.5 million. Nevadans who receive such letters are asked to call the Secretary of State or the Sheriff’s Department.
