Community spotlight: Registration nears end for Carson City youth hoop leagues

Registration is close to wrapping up for the Carson City Recreation Department’s youth basketball programs.

The program closes out sign-ups on Nov. 15. You can register on line at www.carson.org/ccpr or in person at the Carson Aquatic Center from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. The cost is $60 per persn and there’s a $25 uniform fee.

The league will be using the soon-to-be-completed multi-athletic center.

The leagues are open to boys and girls in third through eighth grade.

Carson loses in semifinals

The Carson Jr. Pee-Wee Senators dropped a 19-12 game to the Sparks Ducks over the weekend, eliminating them from championship consideration.

Carson will play Reno for the consolation championship Saturday at 11 a.m. at Golden Eagle Regional Park.

Eduardo Orozco scored twice for Carson on a 28-yard run and a 71-yard kick-off return. Zach Guthrie threw for 90 yards. Decarlo Quintana had an interception, while Miles Frewart had a fumble recovery. Jacob Campbell, Alex Myrehn, Eli Foutz and Caid Milligan led the defense.

Elks basketball event Jan. 2

Carson City Elks Lodge has scheduled its annual Hoop Shoot for Jan. 2 at the Carson City Community Center Gym.

The event is free, and open to boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 13. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with competition starting at 10 a.m. Each contestant shoots 25 free throws.

Coons, Torok win at CVGC

Fred Coons and Richard Torok shot a net 61 to win Flight A at the Carson Valley Golf Club’s 2-man scramble event on Nov. 1.

Marc Prause and Daryle Lewis were second at 62. Jeff and Gary Schreiber also shot 62.

David Morris and Roger Hala won Flight B with a 58, three shots ahead of Gary Carsten and Bruce Sanford. John Guidicatti and Neil Bain won Flight C with a 65, two shots better than John Pearson and John Carey.

• The annual CVGC Turkey Shoot is set for 10 a.m. This is an individual stroke play tournament. The cost is $40 including golf, cart, $10 prize fund and soup at the turn. Turkeys will be awarded to the winners.

Golfers can earn a mulligan by donating three items of food for the Carson Valley Food Closet.

Eagle Valley Veterans Specials

Eagle Valley Golf Course will offer specials today, Veterans Day, and the specials will last through Sunday. The East Course, with cart, costs $28 for the rest of the week and the West Course with cart costs $30. Fifty-mile club members will receive a raffle ticket for every round of golf played for the rest of the week in which prizes include rounds of golf. For more information, call 887-2380.
