Storm causes slick conditions in Carson City

Gardnerville, Nev. — Carson City’s first snowstorm of the season produced icy roads, causing spin-outs across Western Nevada.

NV Energy reports there are 212 Carson City customers without electricity this morning in three separate weather-related outages.

Chains or snow tires were required on most state highways, including Highway 395 south of Indian Hills all the way to the California state line, Highway 50 from Spooner Junction in Carson City to Stateline and Kingsbury Grade.

Snow started falling in the Valley early Tuesday morning.

The impending storm caused the Douglas County School District to limit student pickups to the main Lake Tahoe bus stops. The district did not alter routes or timing for Carson Valley schools as of 7 a.m.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for Carson Valley through 10 a.m. Less than an inch of snow is expected to fall in the Valley, according to the National Weather Service. However, freezing temperatures will leave slick conditions throughout the morning. Authorities suggest leaving early to give extra time for motorists to reach their destination.

Reno was slammed by this storm on Monday night, with reports of 8.5 inches falling.
