150 Years Ago

Worth committing to memory. A bit of glue dissolved in skim milk and water will restore old crape (fabric). Half a cranberry bound on a corn will kill it. Picture frames and glasses are preserved from flies by painting them with a brush dipped in a mixture made by boiling three or four onions in a pint of water. Bed bugs are kept away by washing the crevices with salt water put on with a brush.

130 Years Ago

Emma Nevada. She is said to be quite handsome, except for her nose. A woman who is perfect, all but her nose, would pass for a beauty in most any country, but there are a class of people who look upon such a defect as they do upon a pocketknife that’s all good but the blades.

110 Years Ago

Telegraph office. Goldfield is now a full-fledged metropolis with the Western Union Telegraph office open. Now messages can be sent direct to Goldfield. The old charge of 65 cents for 10 words has been abolished and a new rate of 40 cents for 10 words is in effect.

70 Years Ago

New civilian. Thomas (Laddie) Furlong received a discharge from the Navy at Camp Shoemaker, Calif., and has returned to Carson City.

50 Years Ago

New college. The Carson College Board of Trustees has announced that Ken R. White Company of Colorado and Carson City has been selected as architect engineers for planning and construction for Carson College. Site of the proposed college is just over the Ormsby County line in Douglas County, a second choice as a site is near the entrance to Kings Canyon.

20 Years Ago

Homes for sale. Four bedroom, two bath, double garage, roof is four years old, fenced yard, landscaped, $96,000 and a two-story, three bedroom, three bath, 1,988 square feet, panoramic valley and mountain view, 13 acres, fenced and landscaped, cul-de-sac, $140,000.
