After a long delay due to the manufacturer, Carson City Health and Human Services is happy to announce the FluMist nasal spray vaccine is now available at the Carson City and Douglas County clinics.
FluMist protects against four strains of the flu virus and can be used for ages 2 to 49. Rates for the vaccine are affordable and Medicaid, Nevada Check Up and most private insurances are accepted.
FluMist will be available beginning Nov. 16 at the walk-in clinics as follows: Carson City Health and Human Services, 900 E. Long Street, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 4:30 p.m. Thursdays; Douglas County Community Health, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville, 1 to 4:30 p.m. Mondays.
Those who shouldn’t receive the vaccine are those who have severe allergies to eggs; those who have had life-threatening reactions to vaccines; and those ages 2 to 17 who take aspirin or medication with aspirin.
Those with asthma, weakened immune systems, pregnant or nursing shouldn’t receive FluMist, but should receive the flu injection, which also protects against the four strains of the flu virus.
