Dayton loses in three

LAS VEGAS — Faith Lutheran rolled to a 25-16, 25-17 and 25-13 win over the Dust Devils in a late Friday night contest.

“We came in confident as we warmed up with great energy and purpose,” Dayton coach Monica Halverson said. “As a team we were prepared for tall players who could drive the ball down with force (past Faith Lutheran teams). Their best hitter was 5-6 and not too explosive off the set, but she was consistent and could place the ball.

“Our goal was to shut down the quick sets from the middle with our blocks and cover the court with our defense. The last game we shut down mentally and weren’t playing to our potential and let them beat us.”

Shalia Powell led Dayton with four kills, 16 assists and 17 digs. Rachel Hadley had 17 digs and four assists, and Ashley Mason had four kills and five digs.

Dayton had almost as many errors (17) as it had kills (22). The team hit at a .052 clip.

Halverson believes Dayton can make state again next year.

“We will bring six seasoned seniors ready to claim the state title,” she said. “We had a great season. I’m glad I was able to be a part of it.”
