Bad crossing. We beg leave to make the respectful suggestion that the mud causing so much discomfort to lady pedestrians at the crossing of Carson and King streets, caused by the water from the cistern boxes overflowing and making a small brook, demands the construction of a cross-walk, either gravel or planks. Will the property holders act upon this?

All sorts. The skating rink is becoming a popular place of amusement for old and young. The snowflakes which came down last night were about the size of your hand.

The flags at the Capitol and V&T Railroad office were at half-mast out of respect to the death of William Sharon. Ex-Senator Sharon verbally directed the Trustees of his estate to give $10,000 to the State Orphans’ Home at Carson.

Amateur photographer. The jeweler, T. G. Farrer, has on exhibition some of the finest views of Western Nevada. The views are of the valley, the mountains, the Carson River, Jobs Peak and Falling Leaf Lake. He has a number that will be sold — just the thing for holiday gifts.

Shortage of bread. Bread has been non-existent on the shelves of Carson City since the middle of last week. The bread famine resulted from a strike in Reno bakeries. Meyers obtained its bread from Sacramento and was able to partly relieve the situation.

Counterfeit money. Phony money has been circulating around Carson City and appeared at Smith’s Food and Drug, the Carson City Nugget and other locations.
