150 Years Ago

The trip to Mono Lake from the Euterpe Brass Band, No. 1: We started for Aurora and Mono Lake, first arriving at Aurora and greeted by the citizens. The next morning we started for Mono Lake, 30 miles away. From the summit of Mount Brady, we had our first view of the Lake. It does not present a very picturesque appearance. We descended from the summit at 11,000 feet and made camp at a deserted ranch and entertained an Indian audience with a few select pieces of music.

130 Years Ago

All sorts. A German invented an electrical horse that trots in 1:04. Jack Furlong ought to have one of these horses when he trotted that famous heat on the Carson race track.

Drop in at the Hole-in-the Wall and try one of Captain Avery’s Vamouth (sic) cocktails with clam fritters on a fork. Cooking done at the bar by a new cooking apparatus, San Francisco’s latest craze.

110 Years Ago

Farewell sermon. Rev. Darneille of the Episcopal Church will preach his farewell sermon. Domnie Darneille as the people of Carson delight in addressing him, has made many friends. His work has not been done along in the line of church labor, but he had been the friend of all classes and denominations. Unlike most members of the church fraternity, he has been a man among men, and his work reached in all directions.

70 Years Ago

50 Years Ago

Honorary citizen award. Petula Clark has become the first entertainer in history to be made an honorary citizen of Reno by the Greater Reno Chamber of Commerce ... for her contribution of “pure joy” in her appearances at Harold’s Club.

20 Years Ago

The Rev. Jeffrey D. Paul. Members of the clergy, friends and family were in attendance St. Peters Episcopal Church on Oct. 22 when the Rev. Jeffrey Paul was installed as the rector of the historic church. The sermon was delivered by the Right Rev. Stewart C. Zabriskie, Episcopal bishop of Nevada.
