Before turkeys are carved and pies sliced, St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School will continue its Thanksgiving tradition of hosting its annual Turkey Trot — an event expected to draw hundreds of walkers, runners and joggers on a chilly holiday morning Thursday, Nov. 26.
The event offers an 8K race at 8:30 a.m.; a 5K race at 8:35 a.m.; and a children’s Gobble Wobble, a one-mile fun run at 10 a.m.
But the annual run/walk isn’t all fun and games.
Funds raised from registration fees go to the school, and a portion of the proceeds benefit The Children’s Cabinet.
All races start in front of the Governor’s Mansion on Mountain Street before traversing through Carson City’s west side and looping back to the start.
The top three male and female finisher in the 8K and 5K races will receive awards. This year’s race includes a timing chip system so up-to-date results in real time will be posted at tinyurl.com/2014cctt.
Hot cocoa, coffee and other refreshments will be available following the race.
Registration costs $35 per person by Nov. 23, $40 per person at the event. Signups for the one-mile children’s race cost $15 before and at the event.
Packet pickup is planned from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 24 at St. Teresa of Avila School, 567 S. Richmond St.
