After success at the two-year-old Center for Wound Healing in Carson City, Carson Tahoe Health announced it’s opening a state-of-the-art wound care facility in south Reno as well.
The new Center for Wound Healing, Reno, is scheduled to open Tuesday at 6630 S. McCarran BLVD., Building C, Suite 202, in Reno.
The new center there will enhance access to industry-leading technologies and treatments for patients with chronic, non-healing wounds, according to Carson Tahoe Health (CTH). Such complex wounds may be caused by factors such as diabetes, obesity, aging, or the late effects of radiation therapy, according to CTH, and left untreated can lead to diminished quality of life, perhaps even amputation of an affected limb.
The comprehensive care offered provides customized care plans and state-of-the-art wound treatments, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy, negative pressure therapies, bio-engineered tissues and bio-synthetics.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to expand Northern Nevada’s access to the latest advancements in wound care,” said David Hoskins, MD, the medical director with Carson Tahoe Center for Wound Healing. He said part of the goal is to have the most effective treatments with faster healing times.
A pivotal tool to wound healing is the use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers, three of which were installed in the new Reno facility on November 17. “Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been clinically proven to reduce swelling, fight infection, and build new blood vessels, ultimately producing healthy tissue,” said Hoskins. “The treatment is performed in a state-of-the-art chamber where the patient breathes 100 percent oxygen with air pressure greater than sea level.” Normal air is 21 percent oxygen.
