Sierra Lutheran High School graduate Nathanael Williams helped Colorado School of the Mines make history and earned All-American status in the process.

Williams and the Colorado School of Mines Men’s Cross Country team won the school’s first national title in its 141 year history when it won the Division II National Championship Cross Country meet Saturday in Joplin, Mo.

Colorado School of the Mines came into the meet ranked fourth in the country.

Williams ran a personal best, covering the 10-K course in 30:13.7 to place 21st and earn All-American honors.


Season passes at Carson Valley

Season passes for the Carson Valley Golf Club go on sale Dec. 15 at 8 a.m.

For a single walker, a season pass is $950 and it’s $1,450 including a car. For a couple, the cost is $1,600 and with a cart the cost is $2,425. The cost for a junior, 17 and below, is $99.

Silver Oak passports on sale

Silver Oak is announcing 2015 rates for its Passport and Acorn memberships providing those interested purchase a 2016 pass by Dec. 31.

The Passport membership includes unlimited golf, while Acorn membership includes big discounts on green fees.

An ace for Cockerill

Charlie Cockerill, a member at Thunder Canyon Country Club, recorded the first ace in his 52-year golfing career when he holed out on the 147-yard 17th on Nov. 21.

Cockerill used a 7-iron.


Ice skating at Aces Ballpark

Ice skating is under way at Aces Ballpark. The rink. located right outside the stadium, is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday. From Dec. 18 to Jan. 10, the hours will be 10 a.m to 10 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults 13 through 54, $6 for kids between 3 and 12 and $6 for seniors 55 and above. Skate rental is $3. A 10-punch pass is available along with discounts for groups of 20 or more.
