An array of shooting events — from a 100-yard high power rifle match and a three gun shoot to pistol shoots and 50/50 poker shoots — are planned at Shootout for the Future, an event to raise money for improvements at the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range.
The shootout, which is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the gun range, 4000 Flint Road, also offers exhibition shooting, raffle prizes, food and sporting goods vendors and an awards ceremony.
Shooting events include an NRA 100-yard high power shoot and a 200-yard target rifle match; an IDPA shoot; 50/50 poker shoots; a three gun shoot and a “Bragging Rights” challenge. There will also be shooting demonstrations and a celebrity shootout, in which local dignitaries will challenge each other. Members of the Carson City SWAT team will be at the event, whose attendees can test their target shooting skills against those of the SWAT members.
No loaded firearms are permitted at the event, except at the firing line. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Handguns must be unloaded and either holstered or in a carrying case. All rifles must be unloaded or broken down.
Participants in all shooting events must wear eye and ear protection. Spectators are also encouraged to wear eye and ear protection. Ear plugs will be available at the event for $1 per pair.
Alcoholic beverages are prohibited at the range, but the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Explorers will be selling hotdogs, nachos, popcorn and other snacks, as well as bottled water and sodas. A food truck by Grandma Hattie’s will also be on hand.
Donations raised will go to construction of bathrooms at the range. Longer term goals include the construction of a clubhouse and installation of picnic tables.
To make a donation to the gun range, make checks payable to “Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation, Inc.” or “Foundation for CCPR,” and mail them to NSLGC, P.O. Box 2286, Carson City, NV 89702. Donations are tax deductible.
From Carson City, the gun range can be accessed from Highway 50 East. Turn right onto Flint Road and follow it for about half a mile, before turning right onto Rifle Range Road. Continue on Rifle Range Road for a mile and half. Free parking will be available.
The shootout is organized by Carson Rifle and Pistol Club; International Defensive Pistol Association; Northern Sierra Ladies Gun Club; and Silver State Shootists.
