General Grant is at Salt Lake City, or was on Monday afternoon. We hope he may conclude to quietly drop in upon us sage brushers of Nevada, just by way of shaking off the dust and alkali of Mormondom. Nowhere, so well as in Virginia City, can he find out what’s going on in the inside of things earthly. He would receive a hearty welcome form these hills and valleys.

All Sorts. The warm spell out of season is causing considerable profanity. Miss Lillie Wright gave a birthday party at the White House yesterday, it being the occasion of her 12th birthday. The State Fair directors hit the nail on the head when they made a rule to exclude from the fair all products of convict labor.

100 years ago

The Misses M.G. Mathews, Marguerite Grant and Winifred Lee of San Francisco were foot passengers with their burro this morning. They have taken a novel and healthful way of spending several weeks vacation, sleeping in the outdoors with no tent to sleep in. While in town today they visited the executive office and had Gov. Boyle’s signature on a baseball bat they carry with them for that and other purposes.

King’s Canyon Road will probably be improved in the comparatively near future, according to Robert Allen, state highway engineer. The plan, which has not yet been approved, calls for improvement up to the farming area, a distance of approximately two miles.

The Douglas County Commission Thursday voted to change the names of Stateline and Zephyr Cove, to Lake Tahoe, Nev., despite strong protests from area residents and neighboring chambers of commerce.
