The Remote Area Medical group is hosting a day of free medical services to Carson City residents Oct. 16-18.

The RAM group, in conjunction with Partnership Carson City, will be helping residents who are uninsured or under insured get free dental, vision and medical services such as mammograms, diabetic screenings and more.

“We are discovering that a lot of people in Carson City don’t have adequate health insurance and we are seeing that the first things to drop are vision and dental,” said Kathy Bartosz, director of Partnership. “We have significant numbers that cant afford it and are going to work when in pain and that impairs ability to function at peak performance.

Bartosz said that they are trying to help people gain access to these services that they may not be able to afford.

There will be nearly 20 dentists and numerous other healthcare professionals will be at the event to help treat patients. The event is no cost and patients don’t need to show identification.

The services are first come, first served basis. The lines start at midnight all three days, and numbers will be given out at 3 a.m. Services start at 6 a.m.

RAM recommends that patients bring any prescriptions that they are currently taking, and guardians of minors must be present to give consent for service to children. Patients should also come prepared to stay on-site and bring warm clothing, and snacks and water. Portable toilets will be available.

The event in Carson will take place Oct. 16-17 from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Oct. 18 from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Carson High School.

This event also will take place this weekend in Yerington at the Boys and Girls Club at the same time slots.
