The shooting of Dick Wheeler (continued from Wednesday). Some time ago Wheeler and Birmingham had trouble, but had settled it and were going to let the matter drop. They were on speaking terms up to the moment of the shot. They drank, and the friend turned his back to go. The next moment, Birmingham drew his pistol, shot Wheeler without saying a word, ran out of the house, mounted his horse and galloped away (continued on Friday).

All sorts. “Watty” Hall the Virginia laundryman is dead. There is a deadlock in the election of a Captain for the Carson Guards. Geo. Richards will open then Opera House skating rink on Saturday next.

The public is reminded that the “Elephant-A-Go-Go” is coming to Carson City. Plans are in progress for a Nevada Day afternoon party based on the a-go-go theme, with records spinning out appropriate music. The party will be held at the Republican Headquarters at 215 N. Carson St.

30 years ago

A substance abuse clinic has received a $48,000 federal block grant which has specific provisions for helping women and adolescents in the Carson City area. Community Addiction Clinic received the funds through the state Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Abuse. The program is the first of its kind in the state according to executive director Pat Bates.
