The harvest moon in all her yellow glory is shining down these nights through a mellowing autumnal haze, soft and serene, upon the heads of just and unjust, the pure and the defiled, the honest and the dishonest, the hirsute and the bald. It is a very yellow moon in fact, a golden moon, rich and warm, and if full it would look for all the lunar and terrestrial and sidereal world like unto a ripe and glorified pumpkin set on high to give grace and countenance to the pastry which is now the most seasonable and which owes its palatability to that humble but rich and nutritious vegetable.

Good advice. If Reno knows what is best for her, she will not advance prices during fair week. Extortion will keep visitors from attending a second time. The paralyzing prices charged in Sacramento during fair week have done more to hurt the California State Fair than all other causes combined.

One hundred and fifty veterans of the Philadelphia Brigade, which helped repulse Pickett’s charge at Bloody Angle, Gettysburg battlefield, July 5, 1865, have left Philadelphia to attend the reunion and dedication of the General Webb monument.
