South Tahoe blanks Dayton
DAYTON — The Dust Devils couldn’t slow a streaking South Tahoe team at home on Friday night. Dayton lost to the Vikings 41-0, as the visitors rolled to a third straight victory. South Tahoe (3-4, 3-3 I-A Northern) scored on its first three possessions and had a 21-0 lead after the first quarter. Quarterback Tommy Cefalu threw touchdowns to receivers Zen Contestable and Zach Shearer on the Vikings’ first two drives, and Darren Jackson ran for a 24-yard score late in the opening frame following a Dust Devils turnover.
Midway through the second quarter, Cefalu connected with Noah Jackson for a 30-yard score that made it 28-0 — the junior finished with four touchdown passes on the night. After the break, the Vikings scored a touchdown in each of the last two quarters en route to their most lopsided victory of the season.
The shutout was South Tahoe’s second in three weeks.
Dayton (0-7, 0-6) still hasn’t scored in seven games this season.
“We had a couple of scoring chances,” Dayton coach Tom Eck said. “We just couldn’t get it over the goal line. We had a lot of guys playing out of position because of injuries. My boys played their hearts out.”
Dayton visits Wooster next Friday at 7 p.m.
