Play, music/lecture performances on tap in Carson City

The president of the Brewery Arts Center (BAC) board said Thursday he’s particularly pleased with the range of the center’s upcoming weekend events.

“There are two shows, and this is kind of the standard now because we’re having multiple-event weekends,” he said, but he added there’s nothing standard about the four performances of a play and one musical event this time around.

“It’s nice that we can offer events that will satisfy theater lovers and music lovers. It’s an ability to be diverse.”

Arsenic and Old Lace, put on by Proscenium Players, Inc., is in the Performance Hall with four performances scheduled — at 7 p.m. today and Saturday, at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Leonard Paschini, Carson City guitar maker and a longtime lead guitar player for blues and rock groups in California, plays and comments on his instrument craftsmanship at 7 p.m. Saturday in the BAC’s MHJ Black Box Theater.

“It’s music,” said Horvath, “but it’s also kind of a lecture.” He said Paschini, whose one-man Paschini Custom Guitars has produced instruments since the mid-1970s, would cover his history in both music and guitar making with some remarks during his opening set.

Horvath said that makes it a unique show because it “adds so much depth” to the musical performance.

The BAC Performance Hall is at 511 W. King St., the Black Box Theater a block to the east at 449 W. King St. Tickets for each event are available via BreweryArts.org, by telephoning (775) 883-1976, or at the door.
