A ground breaking ceremony for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada teen center addition is set for Friday morning.

The ceremony at the east end of the existing building at 1870 Russell Way is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. that day, according to Kurt Meyer, the clubs’ board vice president.

“Our new teen center will be 6,500 square feet of beautiful experiences, phenomenal opportunities, and an area of great personal growth for the many teens in our Carson City community,” said Meyer in a letter inviting supporters to attend.

The clubs’ facility, which is 12,000 square feet prior to completion of the addition, is possible because more than $1.6 million was raised. The William N. Pennington Foundation of Reno provided $1.2 million of that and the rest was from other donors.
