Jean Marie Proctor Ross, age 90, of Milford, California, passed away quietly in her sleep on September 28, 2015, at the Northern Nevada Medical Center in Sparks, Nevada. She was born May 12, 1925 in San Francisco. Jean grew up in Kimberly, Nevada and graduated from White Pine County High School. After working as a switchboard operator in the USO office in Hollywood, California, Jean returned to Nevada and attended the University of Nevada in Reno, graduating with a degree in Business Administration. Jean married David Ross, of Milford, California, on March 5, 1949. They had two children, David born in 1950 and Jerry in 1952. In 1959, Jean went to work for the State of Nevada as a typist in the State Parks Division. Later she transferred to the State Budget Division where she became the first female in the history of the agency to be promoted to the Budget Analyst level. Jean retired form state service in 1979. Jean was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women; the Order of the Eastern Star; and a 60 year member of P.E.O. (Philanthropic Education Organization), an organization committed to helping women pursue higher education. Jean is survived by her son Jerry of Washoe Valley, Nevada; her sister-in-law Paula Ross of Novato, California; nieces Janis Young of Mill Creek, Washington; Jeannie Dedrickson (Steve) of Petaluma, California; and Chris Griffith of Cotati, California; and nephews Gary Wells (Kim) of Valencia, California; and Andrew Ross (Michelle) of Moorseville, North Carolina. She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, David James (Sr.); her son David James (Jr.); her parents, Alfred and Emma Proctor; and her sister, Margaret Wells. At her request, no services are planned.
