Feb. 20, 1929: Community leader ‘Jim’ Yerington passes away

James A. Yerington, well known former resident of Carson City, passed away in Corte Madero, Calif., at eight o’clock in the evening of Sunday, Feb. 17, according to word received by friends in this city yesterday.

The deceased was the son of the late H.M. Yerington. After passing through the elementary schools in Carson, he attended college in the East. For many years he was actively engaged in the promotion and management of mining enterprises in this state.

Among his holdings were properties at Brunswick and the Merrimac, also iron and copper properties along and near the Carson River. For many years he had resided in California, but each summer he spent much of the time in Carson and on his properties near this city.

Surviving relatives in addition to the widow, Mrs. Elsie Yerington, are a sister, Miss Jennie A. Yerington of Detroit, Mich., and half-brother, Dr. Herbert Yerington. The death of James Yerington occurred five years to the day after the passing away of his brother, Ed., in this city.

According to the report received in Carson yesterday, the remains will be cremated.

“Jim” Yerington had the high regard of a larger circle of friends, all of whom deeply regret his death.
